Alexander is out of contract at Ninian Park next summer

Scotland goalkeeper Neil Alexander is in continuing talks with Cardiff after turning down a new contract.

"Neil and his agent didn't think the deal we offered was good enough and since then things have stalled a little bit," said Cardiff manager Dave Jones.

"Talks will continue. Neil is quite within his rights to wait until the end of the season and see what happens, but it's a gamble in my eyes."

Alexander, 28, is out of contract at the end of the season.

He has had a mixed five years at Ninian Park, but has impressed this season and stated his desire to stay.

"I feel like I've done well this year and I intend to maintain that form," Alexander told BBC Sport Wales.

"I love it in Cardiff and my family love it here. I'm desperate for the club to go up and to play in the new stadium."

The Scot also welcomed the signing of rival goalkeeper David Forde from Derry City.

"Competition is great, it keeps me on my toes and I want a strong squad to get us into the Premiership," he said.

"David came on trial for a week and he seemed like a really nice guy.

"But I've got the jersey and intend to keep it."

Galway man Forde, 26, has agreed personal terms and passed a medical at the Bluebirds, and is expected to officially become a Cardiff player when the transfer window opens in January.

The ex-West Ham man has Republic of Ireland ambitions, but could face a battle to dislodge Alexander.
