Bougherra believes he is ready for the Premiership
Crewe manager Dario Gradi has conceded that defender Madjid Bougherra will be leaving the club during the summer.
The Algerian international, 24, is keen to play at a higher level following Crewe's relegation to League One.
Gradi told the club website: "Madjid has told me that he could be playing in the Premiership next season and if not there, at least in the Championship.
"I think he could play in the Championship and I can fully understand why he won't commit himself to us."
Bougherra joined Alex from French side Gueugnon in the January transfer window this year and has since made 11 appearances for Gradi's side.
And the Crewe boss added: "His agent will be telling him that Premiership clubs are interested but in my opinion I don't think he will be playing in the Premier League next season.
"He needs to improve but he is a superb lad to work with and he listens and learns.
"I know he has enjoyed himself here and we have both said we will keep in touch and see what happens.
"He says his French club would want around 350,000 and I don't really know. There is no point in discussing figures if he doesn't want to sign for us."
