Striker Darryl Duffy has left Falkirk and signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Hull City.

The 21-year-old, who moved for a fee of about �250,000, could be the first of two new strikers to boost Hull's battle for English Championship survival.

Duffy will train with his new team-mates on Wednesday and is available for Saturday's home match against Crystal Palace.

He has scored nine times in 23 appearances for Falkirk this season.

The Scottish Premier League outfit had previously rejected a bid of �175,000 from Hull for Duffy, who began his career with Rangers.

Bairns chairman Campbell Christie told his club website: "We are disappointed that we have not been able to keep Darryl at Falkirk, particularly as we strive to maintain our position in the Scottish Premier League.

"However, he has decided that he would like to develop his career in England and the board did not feel that we could continue to reject offers we have had from Hull going b ack as far as last summer.

"We wish him acknowledge that he has volunteered to forgo his contractual share of the transfer fee as a contribution to assist our youth and community development schemes."

Head coach John Hughes had hoped that the offer of a new contract would have enticed the Scotland Under-21 international to stay beyond the end of his contract in the summer.

"Darryl has made a significant contribution to Falkirk in the last 18 months and naturally we are all sorry to see him go," said Hughes.

"However, this transfer provides an opportunity for other players to come forward and replace Darryl. We wish him all the very best at Hull City."
