O'Sullivan did not need to be at his best to beat McManus
Ronnie O'Sullivan kept up his recent good record with a comfortable 6-0 win over 1994 Masters winner Alan McManus.
As usual, Wembley was packed out with O'Sullivan fans but despite the margin of victory, it was not one of his more free-flowing displays.
McManus produced an error-strewn performance, and O'Sullivan made the most of the chances he was given.
A break of 75 for 4-0 was O'Sullivan's best and a bad miss on the blue cost McManus the final frame.
Ronnie O'Sullivan admitted he had not scaled the heights against Alan McManus despite claiming a 6-0 whitewash.
"We had a good game at the UK Championship in York so I was expecting a good match but neither of us really hit form," he said.
"I could easily have got beaten so it's nice to be through. I'll enjoy the week because it's a good venue.
"I've watched bits of other games but I'll only watch it if it's on, I won't sit down for it with my cup of tea."
Alan McManus admitted he had not done himself justice after Ronnie O'Sullivan handed him his first Wembley whitewash.
"It's a big event and you're playing the man in form, so you want to put on a good performance but I didn't even look like winning a frame," the Scot said.
"I didn't turn up. Ronnie did nothing out of the ordinary but the worst thing was that I didn't play well.
"I always seem to have good matches against Ronnie but this was quite poor, it was a real surprise."
