Hertha Berlin have refuted claims Rafael Nando was involved in match fixing

The president of German club Hertha Berlin Bernd Schiphorst has dimissed claims that Angola's Rafael Nando is involved in match fixing.

Nando was named along with two other Hertha Berlin players by a German magazine as the club became the first to become involved in Germany's snowballing match-fixing scandal.

Following a lead from disgraced referee Robert Hoyzer, who admitted match-fixing on Thursday, two men were arrested in Berlin on Friday and claimed three Hertha stars were also involved in manipulating matches.

But Schiphorst insisted the club would adopt the 'innocent until proven guilty' approach.

"I am not interested whether these three players were in the cafe or not," said Schiphorst.

"As far as we are concerned they are not under suspicion until some evidence is put forward."

The two arrested men claim the trio helped fix a second round cup match between Hertha and Eintracht Braunschweig on 22 September last year.
