Ki surprised to win young player award

Celtic midfielder Ki Sung Yueng has been named the top young player in the Scottish Premier League during October.

Ki, 21, received his Clydesdale Bank Young Player award after breaking into the first team in January 2010.

"He has been fantastic," said Celtic manager Neil Lennon. "I'm delighted with his attitude and the patience he showed at the start of the season.

"He manipulates the ball very well under pressure and has a good presence about him."

The South Korean international joined the Glasgow club late in 2009, turning down an offer from Premier League side Portsmouth to play in Glasgow.

His first Celtic goal came in the 4-0 home win against St Mirren in August.

Lennon added: "He adds a touch of composure when he plays and his all-round game is coming on leaps and bounds in the short space of time he's been in the team."
