Manchester United pair Mark Wilson and Jonathan Greening have joined Middlesbrough in a 3.5m combined transfer.

Greening cost Boro 2m while Wilson was valued at 1.5m in the double deal.

The duo ironed out the last few details of their joint transfer with Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren, who knows them well from their time together at Old Trafford.

McClaren has now signed three players since taking over at the Boro helm - the other new arrival being 6.5m signing Gareth Southgate.

The pair were named in the England Under-21 squad to face Holland at the Madejski Stadium.

McClaren, who left United to take over at Boro this summer, moved for Greening and Wilson after they said they wanted to leave Old Trafford because of their lack of first-team opportunities.

Despite Sir Alex Ferguson's high hopes for the pair they have failed to become established members of his first-team squad.

Wilson, 22, did not make a single first-team appearance last season.

Scarborough-born England Under-21 international Greening, 22, made five starts and four substitute appearances.
