Middlesbrough midfielder Jonathan Greening has signed a three-year deal with newly-promoted West Brom.

Boro have accepted an initial �1.25m deal for the 25-year-old, who was their player of the year in 2002-03.

Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace told the club's website: "We're delighted to have signed a player of proven Premiership pedigree in Jonathan.

"And we're now focusing on bringing other players in," added Peace, who has already made five summer signings.

Greening joined Boro from Manchester United in 2001 and earned a call-up from England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson to a national training camp.

But he slipped down the pecking order at the Teesside club following the arrivals of Gaizka Mendieta, Bolo Zenden and Doriva.

Last season was a disappointment for Greening, who failed to hold down a regular place in McClaren's side and was not even on the bench for the Carling Cup triumph over Bolton

Meanwhile, Boro hope to persuade Zenden to extend his loan stay from Chelsea and had been linked with a move for former player Geremi.
