Stuart Pettman through to final qualifying round for World Championships

Stuart Pettman won despite being docked a frame

Stuart Pettman could not hide his anger after he was docked a frame in his 10-7 win in the fifth qualifying round for the World Championships.

The world number 47 was able to book his place in the final round despite losing a frame for a late arrival in the clash against Shaun Murphy.

"I was sat in the player's lounge waiting for the referee but then I was docked a frame," said Pettman.

"I was fuming because I hadn't done anything wrong."

Meanwhile Patrick Wallace, a surprise quarter-finalist in 2001, also reached the final qualifying round with a 10-5 triumph over Jonathan Birch.

But Chinese teenager Ding Jun Hui failed in his bid to become the youngest player to compete at the Crucible after losing 10-7 to Barry Pinches in the penultimate qualifying round.

Ding, 16, led 6-5 but Pinches, who reached the UK Championship quarter-finals earlier this season, made breaks of 78, 82 and 131 as he won five of the last six frames.

Gary Wilkinson, who reached the last eight in 1991 and 1995, was beaten 10-4 by Nick Dyson.
