Past history of the Western dis
trict, is recalled by "Merrigal" in
the "Australasian." The older resi
dents of the Dubbo district will
doubtless remember some of the
instances and stations mentioned,
and their memories will be taken
back to the old days when the
pioneers blazed they way through
Writing of some of the old stations,
The holdings which were watered by
the Macquarie — the Watobool (winding
river) of the blacks— and situated be
tween Wellington and the Mole, were
the most Important and best known.
Two of the earliest were Gobolyan
(plant and edible roots), and Mur'rum'-
bis'ge'rie (very good place), Gobolyan,
two miles from Wellington, was taken
up by Judge Wylde. Ben Boyd ac
quired it later and worked it in con-
junction with Minorr (why or where),
which was farther down the Mac-
quarie, Alexander Campbell and Samuel
Browning were others who had it, and
then Phil Myleoldane. It will be best
remembered, however, as the home sta-
lion of John Andrew Gardiner, who
won an A.J.C. Derby with Trenchant.
The father, and afterwards the son,
owned as well Derri Derri (willy wag
tail), on the Mole, and El'lengerah,
near Warren. El'lengerah was first oc
copied by Hubert Lawrence Dulhunty,
in the Forties, just a short time after
they had taken up Dubbo station (Dub
bo inclining head covering), after which
the town of that name was called, and
of which formed a part — the scene
was ehanned, for some of the land
