THE JEWISH CAPTIVE'S SONG.

THEY bid me sing glad songs of old,

My harp and heart, alas, are cold

Their thrill of joy is o'er,

They bid ma slug of Judlth'sfame,

Buch thoughts, alan, would gire deep palo.

My barn bangs on tho irllloir's spray,

Tho sii eamlut glides bulow ;

Tho stormy winds that o'er it play.

And If, perchance, a lighter strain,

Should from Its spirit wake.

My swelling heart would sigh and moan,

Sad echo ; elsa 'twould break,

Tho streamlet waves may cease to flow,

The willow coaso to bend,

The flowTCt wild may censo to blow,

The winds tlicir odors lend ;

Tho sun, tho moon, grow palo and dim,

Thy glory, oh, .Tor«salem.

Wen though thy sun bo sot.

Oh bid mo then In song of old.

I My harp and ii ear t, alas, are cold,

Tlirir notes of joy aro o'er.

A captiro In a distant land,

Forlorn and friendless, I

Hare nought on oarth save the sad hop«,

Por theo to mourn and dio.
