This collection consists of Evelyn Rhoden’s notes about the history of Musselshell, Golden Valley, and Meagher Counties in central Montana. The notes, which are especially rich in the ranching history, were gathered when Rhoden was employed by the Federal Writer’s Project of the Works Project Administration during the late 1930s and early 1940s.

Evelyn M. Rhoden lived in Roundup, Montana when she was employed by the Federal Writer’s Project of the Works Project Administration during the late 1930s and early 1940s.

Evelyn Rhoden was employed by the Federal Writers' Project of the Works Project Administration, and was assigned to collect and report on the history and current status of Musselshell, Golden Valley, and Meagher Counties in central Montana during the late 1930s and early 1940s. The collection consists of Rhoden’s handwritten and typed notes, which are especially rich in the ranching history of the area, and include transcriptions from county records and newspapers as well original notes on interviews with area residents and homesteaders and completed surveys generated by the WPA. The collection also contains correspondence and assignments from the Federal Writers' Project that offer insight into the organization and goals of the New Deal project.
