Photo of Ron RivestProfessor Rivest is an Institute Professorat MIT. He joined MIT in 1974 as a faculty member in theDepartment of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.He is a member of MIT'sComputer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), a member of the lab'sTheory of Computation Groupand a founder of its Cryptography and Information Security Group. He is a co-author (with Cormen,Leiserson, andStein) of the text,Introduction to Algorithms. He has worked extensively in cryptography, and is perhaps best known as a co-inventor (with Adi ShamirandLen Adleman) of theRSA public-key cryptosystem. He is a founder ofRSA,Verisign, and Peppercoin. He has research interests in cryptography, computer and network security, algorithms, voting security, climate change, and, most recently,contact tracing (exposure notification).
