EVERY CHILD DESERVES ACCESS TO A GREAT PUBLIC EDUCATION
Every day, families of Propel scholars experience how we’re redefining schools and defying expectations. We go beyond the typical public school experience.
A TYPICAL DAY AT PROPEL SCHOOLS
Propel Schools offers small class sizes that focus on providing each scholar with support and individualized attention. We also provide more time for instruction with a longer school day and longer school year, resulting in 25% more instructional time than the state requires.
BE THE DIFFERENCE
At Propel Schools, our mission is to be a premier education destination of choice. We owe our success to our employees' hard work and dedication, both in and out of the classroom. We offer the most competitive salaries in the region, a customizable benefits package, and high-quality professional development to provide opportunities for growth within our network.
KINDERGARTEN READINESS
Propel Schools is making a bold move to build a strong foundation for our scholars by focusing on literacy. Through our K-2 Reading Initiative, all of our scholars will perform at or above grade level in literacy by the time they complete the 2nd grade.
PROPEL SCHOOL ATHLETICS
Propel Schools is thrilled to offer all scholars in grades 6-12 the opportunity to participate in interscholastic competition through Propel Athletics. An education-based program, Propel Athletics offers diverse athletic opportunities while focusing on skill development and providing scholars with the opportunity to gain valuable life lessons such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and hard work.
PROPEL PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY
This innovative Academy allows our scholars to have a platform to collaborate across Propel schools and gives them a space to create and express themselves through various art forms. Scholars are accepted into this competitive showcase through an extensive audition process.
MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT
At Propel Schools, we are committed to supporting your children academically, emotionally and socially so they can reach their full potential and be well-prepared for a lifetime of success. I am often asked by families how they can best support their scholars. My answer is always the same — by becoming involved and engaged with our school communities.
Vision, Mission & Habits
To be a premier education destination of choice.
Propel Schools, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a not-for-profit federation of charter schools dedicated to the mission of catalyzing the transformation of public education so that all children have access to high-performing public schools.
Our Propel-wide habits clearly define how our school community works to live out our mission and vision.
Our Habits
Our habits become our values. Our values become our destiny. For the 2023-2024 school year, Propel Schools revealed 5 network-wide Habits that represent values and actions so that everyone in our school communities understands how to contribute to educating children.
In this episode, the "Propel Avenue" team helps Andy "Own It!" by working hard, setting goals, and being responsible.
This is how our scholars own it

Academics
Each of our schools provides a rigorous academic environment but one where the education is personalized so that scholars are prepared for the future, whether they choose a career path or college. Propel Schools offer small class sizes that provide each scholar with support and individualized attention. Propel prides itself in setting the standard for scholars to become productive citizens by prioritizing academic excellence and fundamental life skills.
Afterschool
Our award-winning Afterschool Program is free to scholars in grades K-12. Held Monday through Thursday and utilizing an ever-growing partner network, scholars are provided unique academic and enrichment opportunities during after-school hours.
Fine Arts
The CreativeArts program brings the importance of arts education to the forefront of curricular offerings. By making the arts a core part of learning, our scholars will actively engage with local professional artists, allowing them to be expressive and active members of a classroom. This vital program gives scholars the opportunity to express themselves, their experiences and their hopes for the future.
Propel Partners In Wellness
Propel Partners in Wellness (PPIW) is Propel Schools’ support program to help scholars and families have a healthy and productive academic year. PPIW provides enhanced opportunities for scholars and families to create avenues for growth and success.
Deeply Committed
We were founded with the mission to provide high-quality public schools. Over the years, we have grown to serve approximately 4,000 students. If we were considered a traditional school district, Propel would be the 5th largest district in Pennsylvania.
Alumni
Propel Schools Alumni department works to develop, promote and sustain a valuable relationship with and provide services and guidance to Propel Schools graduates. We work directly with our alum network to engage and support Propel Schools graduates while providing services for current scholars, prospective families, staff, and educators.
