The Bouncer Gets a Theme Song - IGN (original) (raw)

It is decided: every Square game must have a theme song from now on.

There's no end in sight for Square's tendancies towards massively mainstream theme songs in their games. It started with Final Fantasy VIII, continued with Final Fantasy IX, and will first rear its head in PS2 form through... The Bouncer.

Square held a press conference in Tokyo on October 23rd (that's yesterday night, if you live in America), where it announced the theme song, composer and singer for the upcoming super-fighter.

And the song is...

Love is the Gift, produced by Michael Walden Narada, who previously worked with Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, The Pointer Sisters, Aretha Franklin and Color Me Badd.

And the singer is...

American R&B star Shanice Wilson.

Shanice is one of those 80s Star Search finds turned celebs. She's been on the professional music scene since 1987 with her first album Discovery, and has worked on three full albums since along with a collection and various other side projects, including a song on the Boomerang soundtrack.

The announcement was made by The Bouncer's producer and director. Mr. Takashi Tokita, the game's director, commented that the lyrics of Love is the Gift form the theme of The Bouncer. Play to the end of the game, and when you've heard the lyrics, you'll apparently be able to understand the game's theme.

So the question is, when are we going to get to actually play the game.... Contrary to previous reports we've heard, Famitsu and Square are still reporting the title as due out in December, rather than January. We have yet to see the game in playable form, unfortunately, leading us to question the possibility of a release this year, but it if does arrive to Japan in just two months, we won't be complaining as we play this next gen fighter and, eventually, hear the game's theme song.
