Final Fantasy X Sells Like Crazy; World Not Shocked - IGN (original) (raw)

According to representatives from Squaresoft, Square Co. Ltd. shipped more than 2.14 million units of Final Fantasy X to the Japanese market on the day of the title's launch, yesterday. If that figure weren't surprising enough, approximately 1.4 to 1.5 million of those units were already sold to pre-orders. The game thus went platinum and then some on the day of its release.

President Hisashi Suzuki of Square reportedly stated that he hopes to achieve total sales in Japan of 3-4 million units. Between those sales and the game's expected success in both the United States and Europe next year, FFX should live up to its blockbusting expectations and more.
