email 2.4.1 raises a UnicodeError when encountering 8-bit strings in rfc2822 message headers. Although this is not RFC compliant, it is commonly the case for spam messages originating from Asia. It was suggested on mimelib-devel that email should offer 'strict', 'ignore', and 'replace' modes for the programmer to decide what they want to do with invalid 8-bit data.
