Issue 836515: Windows installer 2.3.2 leaves old version in control panel (original) (raw)

I installed Python 2.3.2 (Python-2.3.2-1.exe) over 2.3 on WinXP.

I assumed that this removes Python 2.3, but aside from Python 2.3.2, the software section of the control panel still has a (stale?) reference to Python 2.3.

When I try to remove 2.3, I get a dialog saying that 2.3.2 is about to be removed. This looks inconsistent.

Perhaps some cleanup is missing in the installation procedure?

The recommened way to install Python 2.3.x is to remove any version 2.3.y you have on your machine before.

Besides this, it's probably too late to fix this for the 2.3 line, and 2.4 will most certainly use a totally different installation program (with its own problems ;-).

So, I'm sorry, but we have to live with this - I won't risk other problems by fixing this small annoyance.
