The following is an admirable description of what is poetry. Of course it is more readable by pure minded technicians than by those aware of it naturally. It goes easy into depth and is short as hell:
Poetry is the math of allusion. Its higher-order function provokes processes at least as complex as any formal calculus. A poetic allusion can invoke through symbol more content, be the catalyst for more human movement, than an integral symbol. To know the meaning of some math symbol, one must know N number of discrete concepts, and these are predictable. The mathematics of allusion, however, cannot be learned by going into a library and applying finite concepts to ordered abstractions. In seventeen syllables, a poet can convince a reader that the reader has gone mad, relieve some pain, incite a riot. - Quinn Tyler Jackson
