missy42's Diagonal Garter-Stitch Washcloth (original) (raw)

April 12, 2010 Finally got started on the project that was the whole reason I started knitting again in the first place. After this project, I don’t think I’m going to be doing too many knit projects for a while. Knitting is coming easier than it was the first time I learned it, but I still feel like it goes so slow. And I miss crochet!

LastBloom gave me a wash cloth like this for Christmas a couple years ago, and I decided I wanted to make one. I figured since it was a washcloth, hemp would be the best choice of material, since it’s anti-microbial. I was originally planning on making several, and giving them away as small Christmas gifts for some of my friends, but that didn’t happen.

In fact, it wasn’t until several weeks ago that I showed the original washcloth to MaryTess. She was kind and patient enough to show me how it was done and wrote out the pattern and I finally got around to starting it today. It’s an incredibly simple stitch, so it’s going quickly, though I suspect it’s eating up a bit more yarn than I expected. If I have enough left over, I’m going to make a Bath Puff to match. The plan is to give the set to Mom for Mother’s Day, along with some nice soap from a little soap shop on Venice.

April 26, 2010 I basically have this thing finished. Since yesterday, actually. However, I’m not happy with the last couple rows, and I’d like to ask MaryTess about it, as well as the bind-off. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to make it to today’s knitting class, so I didn’t have the opportunity. Hopefully, I’ll see her at a different group later this week. If not, then I guess it’s just going to have to wait until next week.

May 04, 2010 I finally saw MaryTess last night who took a look at this. She mentioned she likes to do a chain stitch loop for washcloths and dishcloths. I decided to do an i-cord loop so that Mom can hang it on a hook if she wants to. My first i-cord and I think it came out pretty good. Now all I need to do is weave in the ends.
