missy42's Great-Grandma's Vintage Star Potholders (original) (raw)
October 25, 2010 I made these fror a friend who sent me some wonderful skeins of yarn in an incredible colourway that I never seem to be able to find at my Los Angeles area yarn providers. I wanted to do something special for her as a thank you, and I noticed she was part of several potholder swaps. I remembered a pair of potholders we had inherited from my mom’s side of the family. My grandmother and all her sisters are no longer with us, but my mom’s best guess is that her grandmother (my great-grandmother) made them. I thought they were cool and that my wonderful yarn provider would like a set of them. So here’s the results of my first attemps at working out the pattern.
It’s very interesting, because most of the top peice is worked from the outside in, then the last three rounds work out from the foundation chain before being joined with a second layer of solid double crochet rounds. I haven’t been able to find this pattern on Ravelry, and I’d love to share it. However, I’m reluctant to do so, just in case it has been published somewhere. It is possible that this was something that got handed down, but I just don’t know. I suppose I could always post the pattern for free with the disclaimer that I didn’t design it, merely wanted to share it, and if anyone can find the original publisher, I’d be more than happy to give credit/take down the pattern. I may have to check up on the rules, here.
Overall, I really love the way these things came out, though I think I may have to re-work the last couple rounds so that the loop is over one of the points of the star.
November 9, 2010 Adjusted the loop and sent it off. The receipient got them yesterday, so I’ve uploaded the pictures.
