I am taking so many liberties with this fic. I don't know if these people even KNOW each other. The idea is ridiculous, but I'm starting to like it.
Tim Minchin was one of the most interesting and admirable people Dave had ever met. After he’d gotten to the bar and ordered his drink, Tim had captured Dave in conversation and refused to let him go. Noel had begged off early, claiming he had to get up early in the morning – Dave had seen no evidence of that but let him go anyway. It was nearing two in the morning and both men were caught in a conversation detailing the usage of piano versus guitar in popular music.
Tim looked at his watch, “Oh hell, is that the time?”
“Time flies.” Dave shrugged and set his empty glass down on the table.
Tim drained his glass and set it down as well, “Indeed it does, mate. It was good chatting with you though. We should do this again.”
Both men stood up – Dave a bit more wobbly than Tim – and headed for the exit. Both men marked the night’s events as a success.
One Week Later:
Tim was sitting in his living room, watching the television with glazed eyes. Sarah was in the other room with Violet, trying to put her down for a nap. He could hear her soft singing if he focused hard enough. His mobile’s vibrating tore his attention away from the quiet tones.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Tim? It’s Dave Brown. I know, this is a bit weird and late notice, but I was calling to invite you to this DJing gig I’ve got going on tonight – if you’re free.”
Tim thought for a moment. He hadn’t really been out since his last performance, instead staying in to spend time with his wife and daughter. He could use the outing. Surely Sarah wouldn’t mind.
“I don’t think I’ve got anything on. Where is it?”
Dave gave Tim directions and hung up. He was practically buzzing with excitement. He honestly couldn’t believe he’d even gotten up the nerve to invite Tim; and without a word from Noel. He was proud of himself.
Six hours later, Dave was covered in sweat, but he was finished. Tim found him before he could even get to the bar.
“That was hardcore, mate.” He was laughing. Dave didn’t know if that was a compliment or not.
“Oh, uh – thanks.”
He bought a drink and waved to a couple more people he knew. He wasn’t too bothered if he talked to anyone else or not. Tim was the only one he’d invited and Tim was the only one he was honestly interested in talking to.
“So you liked it then?”
Tim grinned and leaned against the bar, “It was great. Thanks for inviting me and that.”
Dave shrugged and took a drink, savoring it while trying to think of how he was going to manage the next phase of his plan.
He took a deep breath, “So, do you want to come back to mine for a bit? Have a drink and a chat?”
All those words had come out very quickly, but Tim got the idea. He took a moment and thought about Sarah. She was at home with Violet. They were probably asleep by now. He was an adult. Dave was an adult. It was harmless. He shrugged, mimicking Dave’s earlier movement.
“Sure.”
