Theatrical: Ahead of Time: The Extraordinary Journey of Ruth Gruber :: Film Movement (original) (raw)
Born in Brooklyn in 1911, Ruth Gruber was the world's youngest PhD at age 20. Four years later she became a New York Herald Tribune reporter as well as the first journalist to enter the Soviet Arctic. A trusted member of the Roosevelt Administration during WWII, she was chosen to escort Holocaust refugees from Naples to New York for a secret wartime mission in 1944.
A feminist before feminism, Ruth was never just an observer, she was a participant in the making of history. She covered the turbulent Middle East throughout the 1940s, and her photos of the ship Exodus 1947 were published in Life Magazine and around the world. With her love of adventure, fearlessness and powerful intellect, Ruth defied tradition and in the process, emerged as the eyes and conscience of the world.
