Annular Solar Eclipse- December 26, 2019. SWAN travelled across India to the west coast of Kerala to observe the Annular Solar Eclipse on Dec 26, 2019. With a wide arsenal of equipment, we photographed the entire eclipse in both white light and Hydrogen Alpha.

About SWAN

It was an interest of few school and college students from eastern India to look up high, towards the sky. Their interests crystallised and SWAN was born in 1987. Arrival of the Halley’s comet closer to the Earth that year played the prime role in this crystallisation.

The crystal wasn't born with its present name and it was much later when the name 'Sky Watchers Association of North Bengal' was suggested, the initials of the name making up the word 'SWAN,' a migratory bird that is believed to navigate with the stars.

Some events today and some others tomorrow. High altitude locations and dark sky within vicinity as locations and ‘Sky of This Month’ of Science Reporter magazine as guide shook hands with enthusiasm. Activities **With its dedicated members, the organisation is now affiliated to many national and international bodies and conducts its activities in three main sections-**Own study, regular sky watching and astrophotography.Special celestial event based projects.Popularisation of astronomy- ​through presentations and sky watching camps at schools, colleges and universities. regular popular science talks at Science Centres of 'National Council of Science Museums,' All India Radio and Doordarshan.
