djinnii, deployment customization is available via open-vm-tools-deploypkg, which is what VMWare recommends installing on templates. e.g. Ubuntu 10.04 - partnerweb.vmware.com/GOSIG/Ubuntu_14_04.html
Unfortunately there's no support for guest customization, so this is not useful for deployment to vcloud instances. What's more disappointing is that VMWare states this is the supported & recommended version to use.
Works perfectly on Linux Mint Debian as of 8.26.2011. Make sure you install open-vm-toolbox if you want copy/paste/dnd/auto-resize features. Read more reviews >
