PROJECT SPACE
SPEKTRUM is a space of convergence for cultural communities and transdisciplinary groups emerging and operating in and off Berlin. The project aims to bring confrontation, open knowledge and a platforms for idealisation, realisation and presentation of technology-based artworks, science-focused events and futuristic utopias based on the principle “do-it-together-with-others”. Above all, we are an open space promoting participatory processes to co-define and co-design a social and physical playground for curiosity and critical understanding.
The venue is part of a monumental architecture in the heart of Kreuzberg/Neukölln realised by Franz Hoffmann and Bruno Taut, one of the main expressionist architects of the modernist period. The inner space is characterised by a multi-layered approach to heights, with an unusual 5 meter high ceiling for the event room and other sections organised as split-levels. These architectural qualities tell us a story of planes and volumes, offering guests a surprising walk around with secret spots to discover.
Space Facilities:
- Conference/event room (100 people capacity) in historical and monumental venue
- Coffee/bar with a chill out zone, big windows, tables for gatherings, aperitifs, cocktails/drinks (100 people capacity)
- Sunny terrace
Technical Facilities:
- Big projection screen (4m x 2.30m) for presentations and screenings
- Portable projection screen (2m x 2m) suitable for small scale presentations
- Optoma Beamer 4200 lumens, fullHD also suitable for medical resolution
- Sound system (Mackie) for stereo set-up, with a 16-channel mixer
- 2 different light designs, full bright neon for workshops and dimmable halogen wall lamps for special atmosphere
SPEKTRUM has been concepted and set up by:
Alfredo Ciannameo, media artist. He graduated from the Interfaculty of the Royal Academy and Royal Conservatory of The Hague, The Netherlands, with a Master in ArtScience. He cultivates a strong interest in the intersection between physics science and sensory immersivity. With his plasma organ Ionesis, he took part in various exhibitions in the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and Brazil.
Lieke Ploeger, community builder. She has a double master of arts from the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands and has been involved in various European research projects in the fields of digitisation of cultural heritage and digital humanities. Next to SPEKTRUM, she works as community manager for Open Knowledge, where she is responsible for the OpenGLAM network dedicated to promoting free and open access to digital cultural heritage held by galleries, museums, libraries and archives around the world.
