Ferguson renews partnership with Homes for Our Troops (original) (raw)
Marine Lance Corporal Alberto Flores Jr. joined the military to support his family. In 2005, during his second combat deployment in Iraq, his life changed forever when an improvised explosive device (IED) struck his vehicle, resulting in the amputation of his right leg above the knee.
Fast forward to 2024, and Alberto’s journey took another significant turn. Homes for Our Troops (HFOT), an organization dedicated to building specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans, handed him the keys to a new home. This wasn’t just any home; it was HFOT’s 400th, a milestone in their mission to support veterans. The house, designed with an open floor plan, pull-down shelving, roll-under sinks and accessible appliances, was tailored to meet Alberto’s needs, allowing him to engage in daily activities with his family safely and comfortably.
For two decades, HFOT has been building and donating homes for our veterans like Alberto. Since 2015, Ferguson has proudly supported this mission, and we are honored to extend our commitment.
“We are excited to renew our partnership with Ferguson,” said HFOT President/CEO Brigadier General, USA (Ret) Tom Landwermeyer. “We take pride in the quality of our homes and the products we use, and they are an outstanding, highly patriotic company that helps us build more homes for deserving veterans.”
These homes are more than just structures; they are lifelines. Many veterans have endured life-altering injuries such as amputations, paralysis and traumatic brain injuries. HFOT homes are equipped with over 40 special adaptations to help veterans live independently. HFOT also continues to support veterans long after they move in, ensuring they have the resources they need to rebuild their lives.
“On this Veterans Day, we honor the incredible strength, sacrifice and patriotism of our service members and their families,” explained Melissa Hazelwood, Director of Social Impact at Ferguson. “Homes for Our Troops plays an important role in rebuilding the lives of our veterans, and Ferguson is proud to support this mission. By continuing our partnership with HFOT, we can help make a meaningful impact in the lives of those who have given so much for our freedom.”
Ferguson’s partnership aligns with its Ferguson Cares mission to support our veterans and neighbors in need with housing. The company has also established many impactful partnerships that address housing issues at the local level.
