First some brief notes about this filmography. The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) lists several films not included here, which are mostly Snub Pollard shorts made before Parrott joined the Roach studio. When he did finally join, he directed Pollard, so the person who contributed the information to IMDb must have assumed that Chase directed ALL of Pollard's films. Basically, I've stuck with the filmography in the book Smile When The Raindrops Fall by Brian Anthony & Andy Edmonds. I did, however, include other direction and writing credits as shown in IMDb, but as 'unverified' if they're not also shown in Anthony & Edmonds' book. And finally, I've included all Roach films released and/or made during the time Parrott was director-general at the studio, with the exception of the Harold Lloyd films.

1904

• Around this time, Parrott began to perform on street corners in Baltimore as a singer and dancer. Before long, he developed a street act with Sam Micals and another boy.

1906

• Around this time, the three boys took their first tentative steps into vaudeville. Before long, Parrott began to perform as a solo act. Eventually, he took a job at a local theater, leading theatergoers in singalongs as the lyrics were projected on the screen.

1907

• Around this time, Parrott's activities in the nickelodeons evolved into a stage act that he performed between films, in addition to the singalongs. He also began to perform some of his own songs, and also began to incorporate comedy into his act.

1909

• Around this time, Parrott left his job at the theater and decided to break into the more prestigious vaudeville circuits. He began to feature comedy in his act more prominently during this time. Before long, he joined the Orpheum circuit and began to tour the country.

1910

• During this year, the vaudeville company made it to New York, but after finishing its commitments, fired all of the acts. Parrott was forced to take odd jobs to survive during this period. Eventually, he worked out a routine with Harry Bernard and the two eventually began to work more steadily.

1911

• Towards the end of this year, Parrott and Bernard joined the Belasco troupe. They performed both separately and together as the troupe toured the country.

1912

• During this year, Parrott and Bernard decided to remain in Los Angeles rather than return east with the Belasco troupe.
• In February, Parrott joined Lon Chaney's vaudeville troupe in a show called "Fischer's Follies." A few months later, the show disbanded.
• Parrott eventually became an extra with the Christie Comedy Unit, which ultimately meant doing every type of odd job at the studio. Eventually, he also was able to write and co-direct. Universal distributed the Christie product at this time.

1913

• In the spring of this year, Parrott left the Christie studio and found work as an extra at the Keystone studio, primarily in the Ford Sterling series. After a while, he was contributing gags and eventually he was ghost-directing certain scenes in the comedies.

1914

• By the middle of this year, Parrott began to be credited as a director, while continuing to play supporting roles in the films.
• By the end of the year, Parrott was frequently playing featured roles.

1918

• During this year, Parrott left Fox and began to freelance, working briefly for L-KO, and then signing with King Bee by the beginning of April. He was the director-general at the studio, and specifically directed the Billy West series, in which he also occasionally acted. He also ventured into an unfinished musical comedy with Billy West, and wrote a song (with James Adams and Chris Schonberg) entitled "Sammy's Saving Souvenirs For The Girl He Left Behind."
• In the early summer, the West series went on hiatus for several months when its star became ill with influenza. It was at this point that Parrott began to star in some of the films he directed. He also went back to freelancing during this period, working at L-KO until the general closure of film studios in October due to the epidemic.
• Also during this period, King Bee was renamed Bull's Eye, with West returning to work in December.
• The Internet Movie Database credits Parrott with directing the Snub Pollard short "Call A Taxi," but this is consistent with several other Pollard films included in the same filmography. Apparently, somebody is assuming that Parrott directed all of Pollard's films, even the ones made before Parrott joined the Roach studio.

• Towards the end of this year, Parrott also left and directed a couple of comedies for Educational Pictures starring Lloyd Hamilton.
• The Internet Movie Database credits Parrott with appearing in two Rolin films from this year, "Ask Father" and "All At Sea," but I suspect that it was actually his brother James that appeared in these. In any event, they're not included in Anthony & Edmonds' filmography.

• While continuing to direct for Educational, Parrott also directed films starring Mr. and Mrs. Carter De Haven.
• The Internet Movie Database credits Parrott with directing many Hal Roach films from this year, particularly those starring Snub Pollard. This appears to be nothing more than an assumption on somebody's part, since Parrott later directed the Pollard series. Because of this, I've omitted these films from my list. However, Anthony & Edmonds include "Trotting Through Turkey" in their filmography, which makes me think that perhaps Parrott freelanced at Rolin/Roach at least this once before eventually settling there.
• Also, IMDb includes the Lloyd Hamilton short "The Simp," as directed by Charles Parrott, but I haven't verified this, nor does it appear in Anthony & Edmonds' filmography. It may be a case of somebody assuming that Parrott directed all of Hamilton's films.

• In February of this year, Parrott joined the Hal Roach studio to direct the Snub Pollard series. Presumably, he had already been freelancing for this purpose, as the below shooting dates indicate. Or perhaps, Anthony & Edmonds simply crediting Parrott with the Pollard films released in February and thereafter.
• During the Christmas season, Parrott, along with Jean Havez, organized the Hal E. Roach Minstrels for the purpose of performing at the company Christmas party.
• In December, Parrott was appointed director-general of the studio. From that point on, he received supervisory credit on most of the studio's output, with the notable exception of the virtually autonomous Harold Lloyd series. I'm assuming that this credit started appearing in the films at the time he was promoted, even though the initial releases would have been filmed prior to this promotion (this would jibe with what happened when he stopped supervising a couple of years later).
• At this time, Parrott was a member of the Motion Pictures Directors Association.

• As director-general, Parrott received 'supervisor' credit on presumably all of the studio's output except for the Harold Lloyd films. With the Our Gang series, Parrott's supervisor credit disappears between "Saturday Morning" (no. 6), a Dec. 3rd release, and "A Quiet Street," (no. 5), a Dec. 31st release. This means that he probably stepped down from this position during December. However, many films were released over the subsequent months that would have been filmed while Parrott was still director-general, for which I've listed him as an uncredited supervisor.
• Over the Christmas holidays, Parrott wrote, directed, and starred in "The Follies Of Culver City," a Civil War satire that featured many of the male actors of the studio playing both male and female roles. The stage presentation was performed at the Roach studio as part of their Christmas party.
• Also around 1922 or so, a song called "Down On The Farm" was published, which was written by Jimmy Adams, Charles Parrott, Billy Dale and Harry Harrison.

• Most of the Roach films released early in the year had been filmed while Parrott was still director-general of the studio. It's doubtful that the resultant supervisory credit would have continued to be given in films released after he stepped down from that position in Dec. 1922, so I've listed him as an uncredited supervisor for films shot prior to that point.
• In January of this year, filming began on the feature film "The King Of Wild Horses," which starred Parrott.
• By mid-April, Parrott's contract was renewed.
• From late April to August, Parrott acted in the Edna Murphy serial "Her Dangerous Path."
• In July, Parrott and fellow director Robert McGowan began a comedy director's workshop on the lot, which was abandoned after a short time.
• In August, filming on the Charley Chase series began, with Parrott changing his last name professionally to Chase.
• Parrott also took part in a Christmas stage show put on for disabled veterans.
• IMDb credits Parrott with appearing in the Jackie Coogan film "Long Live The King," but this is probably being confused with the later Charley Chase comedy "Long Fliv The King."

• On February 3rd of this year, Chase signed with Columbia Pictures. After making the first four films in his new series, he went on a personal appearance tour.
• In June, Chase became a 'special assistant' to Pandro S. Berman at RKO, and apparently worked on comedy routines for the Fred Astaire film "Damsel In Distress." There were also plans to feature Chase in the film, but these failed to materialize.
• In August, Chase began directing for the Columbia short subject department as well as continuing to star in his own series. He also recorded several pilots for an NBC radio show that was never picked up.
