- 9 Core Messages about Prenatal Alcohol Exposure: Developed by a collaborative team of Alaskan FASD champions, this booklet explores definitions, characteristics, strengths and challenges, diagnosis, early intervention, prevalence, strategies for success, prevention, advocacy, and resources.
- Choose Connections: An upstream universal prevention campaign elevating the shared protective factor of “connections” to build resiliency and help us navigate the sometimes challenging world that lead to risky behaviors like misusing alcohol.
- FASD Collaborative: Explore a wide variety of on demand education and training opportunities produced by this cross-organization international initiative to increase high quality support and training options for the FASD community.
- Red Shoes Rock: A Global FASD Awareness Campaign giving voice and support to those affected by prenatal alcohol exposure.

Prenatal alcohol and drug related disabilities have a huge impact on the educational system in the state of Alaska. This module will teach you about disabilities realted to prenatal exposure to alcohol and drugs. - Educating Students with an FASD: Presented by Sr. Suzette Fisher, SND, Ed.S. this hour-long presentation explores the relationship of chronological age and developmental age of students with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and realistic expectations to recognize the multi-layered interventions necessary to ensure student success.
Healthcare Providers
- Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Training and Resources (CDC): Free, online resources and tools that can help educate healthcare professionals about fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs). Resources include free online courses, information to facilitate patient-provider communication, and other materials.
- What Behavioral Health Providers Need to Know About FASD: A series outlining basic information for anyone working with individuals impacted by prenatal alcohol exposure in the behavioral health field presented by self-advocate and master’s level clinician, Tami Eller. Each segment is approved for 0.5 hours CE credit for psychologists, nurses, physicians, and social workers. Go to the instructions to create a login in the system (if you don't already have one).
- Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders: Recognition and Management: American Academy of Pediatrics in Cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention offers this free online course to pediatricians and others to increase their FASD awareness and skills.
- Let’s Talk Alcohol & Pregnancy: A resource for nurses and all healthcare providers interested in learning how to address the issue of prenatal alcohol exposure with their patients. - Introduction to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Diagnosis and Assessment: The Role of the Psychologist: This session will offers opportunities to directly learn with psychologists active in the multidisciplinary approach to FASD diagnosis who are using the four digit code, neuropsychological assessment & how results are used to guide interventions and explore current issues facing psychologists including virtual therapeutic supports.
- Neurobehavioral profiles observed in individuals with FASD across the lifespan: Intervention needs, how to meet those needs and feedback from families on how well the interventions met their needs: Presenters Dr. Susan Astley Hemmingway & Dr. Allison Brooks share the FASD diagnostic outcomes and neurobehavioral profiles observed over the past 20 years on 4,845 patients diagnosed with FASD in AK and WA by interdisciplinary teams using the FASD 4-Digit Diagnostic Code. How do diagnostic and neurobehavioral outcomes vary by level of prenatal alcohol exposure, age, race, and gender. What are the intervention needs of individuals with FASD? Does an FASD diagnosis help qualify an individual for intervention services? Do these intervention services typically exist in a community, and do they meet the needs of the patient and their caregivers?
- FASD and the Role of Occupational Therapy: Presenter By Joy Doll, OTD, OTR/L, shares the impact of alcohol exposure on brain development and how OT can help support the life of individuals with FASD or PAE. The presentation will cover the daily life activities and how help to support full participation in daily activities.
Family/Caregiver
- FASD Across the Lifespan: a 7- part series for caregivers exploring the impact of prenatal alcohol exposure across the lifespan from infancy through adulthood. This series is focused on caregivers, though all working with families and professionals working with families are welcomed. Alaska Licensed foster parent can earn training credit toward licensing requirements by completing the questionnaire.
