Severe criticism of the action of one
of the club's in leaving the League
suddenly when the season was just
beginning was expressed by the
president (Mr. M. Clota) at the
annual meeting of the Sub-district
Mr. Close said that he referred to the
Prahran City club, which had been sponsored
by the Melbourne Football Club.
"This club, Mr. Close said, came along
at the beginning of the season full of
promises, and three weeks later it had
disbanded, leaving the league In a very
bad position. Last season we managed
to persuade several Victorian Football
League clubs to sponsor a Sub-district
League club, and we intend to pursue the
same policy this year; but I would like
to see the teams taken over by League
clubs given more support."
Mr. Close also said that he was sorry
to see that some of the Victorian Football
League clubs were holding socials in order
to raise funds for trips for their players.
Many junior organisations relied on
socials to assist club finances, and the
League clubs were taking most of the
The secretary of the Transport Board
(Mr. P. Mountjoy) attended the meeting,
and explained the meaning of the new
transport regulation. When it was pointed
out to him how the junior clubs would be
affected by the loss of the motor-vans
used to carry players and supporters to
their matches Mr. Mountjoy said that he
would place the facts before the board.
Office-bearers elected were: - President,

Alan Pitcher", the former Fitzroy footballer,
was appointed as coach of the
Brighton Football Club last night in place
Pitcher, who played successfully with
Brighton last season, has had eight years'
experience with Fitzroy, and has played
under Frank Maher and Haydn Bunton.
He Is aged 29 years and is a half-forward
Last week Brighton appointed Gordon
Ogden, the leading Melbourne back man
as its coach, but on learning that he had
received an attractive offer from the
Warracknabeal club, it was decided to release
The selection committee appointed last
night is: Messrs. D. R. Donaldson, J.
Condon, and H. Hazeldene.
The club will hold its fortnightly dance
at the Wilson Hall on Saturday, and the
ladies' social committee will be elected
The St. Kilda committee, at a meeting
last night, appointed Mr. C. W. Farrow
secretary of the seconds. Mr. Farrow,
who was secretary of the Yellow Cabs
team for three years when it played in the
Wednesday League, will also act as delegate
Mr. P. Williams was appointed one of
the patrons of the club. He has been of
great assistance in finding employment for
players, and has agreed to assist the club
again this season. He is only the fifth
patron of the club, the others being the
Minister for Customs (Lieut.-Colonel
White), Colonel Harold Cohen, and
Messrs. Michaelis and Haworth, MLAs.
Writing from Beulah, Jack Kelly, the
talented wing man, said that he would return
to St. Kilda for training at the end
The first dance of the season will be
held in the pavilion on March 26. Proceeds
will be devoted to the trip to Perth fund.

thoroughly tested. Hawthorn match committee
decided last night to allocate new

Football Club has decided to retain
last season's training staff. Bob Davall
has been appointed head trainer.
Frank Seymour, the Northcote Football
Club's forward, has completed his
tenth year with the club. The club is
considering a method by which his services

is hoping that he will be available for

Lahiff for Port Melbourne
The Port Melbourne committee has appointed
T. Lahiff coach for the coming
season. Lahiff, who has been playing at
Essendon for the last three years, formerly
came from Port Melbourne, where he
gained a high reputation as a wing half
forward. He was usually the relief rover
at Essendon, and will have to obtain a
clearance from that club.
Improved performances last season and a sound
financial position were reported at the annual
meeting of the Sandringham Amateur Football
Club on Monday night. Pleasure was expressed
at the appointment as coach of D Hayes, former
Richmond player. The following trophies were
presented: Most useful player, J. Ryan: best first
year player, A. Oravllle; silver cigarette-case to
commemorate his 102nd match with the club, A.
Roberts; silver cigarette-case to commemorate his
HCtli game with the club, J. Ryan.
The following officers were elected:-President,
Mr. J. Coutts: vice-presidents. Messrs. A. P. Harper,
J. Meade, W. Ryan. J. Latterly, and J
Harper; secretary, Mr, A Richards; treasurer, Mr.
J. Mead: assistant secretary, Mr W. Richards;
assistant treasurer, Mr J. Coutts: committee,
Messrs. M. Elliott, P. Scarlett, H. Hirst, A. Roberts,
J. Ryan, O. Bogle and H. Van Pelt.
STAWELL, Tuesday. - L. Hughson,
the Fitzroy footballer, has received notice
of his transfer to the Stawell Post-office.
If his clearance is arranged he will coach
the Stawell team in the Wimmera League
