Avatar: The Last Airbender Flashback - "The Siege of the North, Part 2" Review - IGN (original) (raw)

While still trapped in the spirit world, Aang discovers the identity of the Moon and Ocean spirits. Katara, Sokka, and Princess Yue try desperately to find Aang's body before it is to late, while Zhao has successfully captured the Moon spirit, the source of all Waterbending. As far as season finales go, this is one is one for the ages. From epic action to heartwarming storytelling, part two of the "Siege of the North" saga didn't pull a single punch and delivered what we expected to see when watch this show.

The fights were all choreographed fantastically; it was like watching a beautiful ballet during the Katara/Zuko fight. Seeing two masters go at it during the Iroh/Zhao fight, and a no-holds barred smackdown between an Avatar-stated Aang and the entire Fire nation fleet that Zhao assembled.

This episode did a wonderful thing in showing and telling us about Waterbending; the meaning and power behind it. I hope that they do the same thing with the other bending tribes.

The most shocking part of this episode was the execution of the Moon Spirit. I never thought for a moment that Zhao was going to kill the Moon Spirit. I thought Aang would pop in and save the day, or Iroh would unleash more fury than he did. It was a pleasant and real surprise. We had a chance to peak into Zhao's insanity when he lets loose and fries the Moon Spirit. This bit of action caught me off guard, but made me smile at the end, not because a spirit was killed; that would be mean, No, I smiled because I knew some serious Avatar action was going to take place, and I love me some Avatar power.

I liked watching Aang grow up when he saves Zuko's life. I'm sure it was a hard decision to make, especially for someone his age.

A lot of learning is going to have to take place over the next few seasons if Aang is going to do what he needs to do, and save the Earth. It was a great episode with its Lord of the Rings type ending, setting the stage for Season 2.
