Golomb's Original Paper (original) (raw)
This is a copy of 'Run length encoding', the 1966 paper in which Solomon W. Golomb first described his now-famous codes, using a novel and informative James Bond metaphor. The full citation is:
- Run-length encodings - S. W. Golomb (1966); IEEE Trans Info Theory 12(3):399
Thanks are due to my correspondent Mr Jonathan, er, Jonathan Something, for supplying this eprint. The DJVu version is the original; the PDF was generated with DJVuLibre and Ghostscript (and gzip!).
Those seeking a more noddified and less spy-themed description of Golomb codes may be interested in the one i wrote.
