Nationals MPs are reeling from Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce's decision to step down as leader, as the 21-person party room prepares to meet in Canberra on Monday to choose his replacement.
Despite approaching the party's centenary, the Nationals are not experienced at leadership changes and there's little clarity about how a vote could take place during Senate estimates hearings, which are also due to start on Monday.
