WOMEN OUT OF FA CUP

As reported here last Sunday, Altrincham FC Women "bowed out of The Adobe Women’s FA Cup at The J.Davidson Stadium on Sunday, as a strong Macclesfield side deservedly progressed...

Despite dominating the tie from the early minutes, Macclesfield were thwarted by a disciplined defensive performance from the Robins, led by Charlotte Bromley and Brianna Morrison, before two goals in three minutes around the half hour mark, from Katie Locke and Ebony Stewart, put Mark Alderson’s team firmly in the driving seat...

Despite being outplayed, Altrincham kept plugging away and were rewarded midway through the second period, with a wonderful move, involving four of Alty’s most influential players, producing the finest goal of the game to halve the deficit..

Alex Hilton-Slee reflected on his first game in charge 'In the first half we struggled to retain the ball in attacking areas and failed to create real chances so at half-time we switched formation and brought Katie Robins into the game along with Rhianna Pickering. Both players made a real difference, and we managed to get a goal back through Kira Saycell.

'I couldn’t be prouder of the girls’ efforts'".

Alty TV has highlights of the match.

WOMEN'S TEAM SCRAP PLAYER FEES

Altrincham FC "have taken a decisive step towards reviving the fortunes of the women's team by scrapping the system of players having to pay fees.

The move comes after a thorough review of how the team struggled last season and whether players having to pay a £40 signing-on fee and £25 per month for the duration of the campaign might have had a detrimental effect.

As a consequence, the club can announce that fees will no longer apply to any player representing the women's team, with any costs being absorbed by Altrincham FC and Altrincham FC Community Sports...

The players [are] continuing to train twice a week at Broadoak Academy’s fantastic new 3G facility and Cheadle Hulme School".

Last season the Women's team was relegated from the Northwest Women’s Regional League South. "A series of issues and disruptions affecting the playing and coaching side of the women's team did not help... As we await confirmation of which league we will be in next season, meetings have taken place to discuss the future of the women’s team and how the club can ensure it has the best chance of turning round their fortunes and emulating the success of the men's team". WOMEN'S CUP PROGRESS

Ian Langford has kindly supplied a report on Altrincham Women's 5-3 win at Penwortham Town, back in early September. The Alty Files apologises for the delay in publishing this which is entirely down to the website and not Ian!

The game ended Penwortham Town LFC 3 Altrincham Women 5

Ian writes, "Altrincham Women rekindled the magic of the cup with a delightful performance at the Vernon Carus Sports Club.

Altrincham had an indifferent start to the season with a win, a draw and 3 defeats including a 7-2 home defeat a fortnight ago.

In contrast Penwortham had three wins and a draw which saw them reside at the summit of the NWWRFL Division 1 North.

The early exchanges saw both keepers making fine saves to keep the game scoreless. The ninth minute saw Altrincham take the lead when a fine cross from the left found Megan Rowley who controlled the ball and calmly lifted it over the keeper from seven yards.

Megan Rowley scored her second on 22 minutes when she scored directly from a corner. Jade Hesketh made it 3-0 just before half-time when she dispatched a loose ball from eight yards past the keeper.

The second half saw Altrincham continue to play some nice football, playing out from the back the Parkinson way. They were rewarded with a fourth on 59 minutes when three players combined to find Jade Hesketh who scored her second from seven yards.

The home side got on the score sheet on 70 minutes with a delightful 25 yard free kick.

Penwortham then began to show why they were top of their league as they then started an onslaught of the Alty goal. Town got their second on 79 minutes when a cross from the right found an unmarked player to score from nine yards.

Substitute Laura Kelly alleviated the pressure on 87 minutes after outpacing the defence to run on to a through ball to poke it pass the keeper from 18 yards to make it 5-2.

Penwortham scored another cracking 25 yard free- kick on 89 minutes to reduce the deficit to two goals.

Lauren Diskin made an excellent save in the 91st minute pushing an 18 yard free kick onto the post as the home side continued their onslaught.

Finally after seven minutes of injury time the FT whistle was blown and Altrincham had earned a place in the next round."

'We already have 20 girls’ teams in the club’s junior section,' said Alty director Cathal Morrison.
