(Not sure who is responsible for the above picture ... but this review is for the Kenny Rogers LP "Gideon")Released in 1980, this 8th album by Kenny Rogers (as a solo artist) came out as United Artists LOO-1035 and, as a concept compilation dealing with Texas cowboy Gideon Tanner, not only reached # 1 on Billboard's Country Album charts, but # 12 as well on the Pop Top 200. In addition, it produced the # 2 Adult Contemporary (AC), # 3 County and # 4 Billboard Pop Hot 100 single, Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer, a duet with Kim Carnes, as United Artists 1345, peaking in April/May 1980. On the flip, Goin' Home To The Rock (which opens and closes the album), Kenny starts the story about Gideon, who is clearly deceased. It's notable, too, that Kim Carnes, who produced the album, also wrote all the songs but one with husband Dave Ellingson, and that exception, Somebody Help Me, was penned by Ellingson on his own. UA would also use the tracks Sayin' Goodbye/Requiem: Goin' Home To The Rock, as the flip of his follow-up hit single, Love The World Away (from the film Urban Cowboy), a # 4 Country, # 8 AC and # 14 Hot 100 in July 1980 as United Artists 1359.The tracks are: A1. Goin' Home To The Rock (Intro) (0:40); A2. Gideon Tanner (2:34); A3. No Good Texas Rounder (4:11); A4. Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer" (3:39); A5. The Buckeroos (3:18); A6. You Were A Good Friend (3:53); B1. Call Me Up (The Phone Is In The Cradle) (3:17); B2. These Chains (3:22); B3. Somebody Help Me (2:51); B4. One Place In The Night (2:59); B5. Sayin' Goodbye (3:25); B6. Requiem: Goin' Home To The Rock (0:58).
