Broken!!

Broken!!

I love receiving a new BROKEN CD. It's cracked on both sides, I haven't opened it to see if the CD itself is fine. Very disappointed in the packaging. However, I know the music on this CD is amazing. Hopefully the CD is fine.

I first heard Disturbed on the radio with their cover of Genesis "Land of Confusion." I'm a big Genesis fan, though not so much of the Invisible Touch era, and had to admit Disturbed's version of the track is better and made me reconsider the song. Later, I heard another track (I think it was "Just Stop"). I wrote down some of the lyrics and looked it up and, alas! it was by the same band on the same CD! Well, I better buy it, and I am glad I did. These guys rock! The vocals are superb and, lyrically, their tracks are interesting with a lot of meat to them. I recommend this CD to anyone into power metal. It is heavy yet very accessible (half the tracks are under 4 furious minutes).

"Ten Thousand Fists" (3:32): Explosive opener with pounding drums! Sets a powerful image: "You will remember the night you were struck by the sight of ten thousand fists in the air."

"Just Stop" (3:43): Excellent! A lot of passion, especially at the chorus: "all that you want is to criticize something for nothing..." Interesting theme: "enough of the limitless critical comments...[and] pseudo-involvement."

"Guarded" (3:20): My favorite track. There is so much passion in the vocals and the guitar riffs. To me, it is very moving yet rocks. Great line: "why does it sound like the devil is laughing." Is guarding one's self from relationships the work of the devil? Interesting idea.

"Deify" (4:17): Probably my second favorite track on this CD. It flat out rocks! Excellent lyrics: "It seems so clear now what I must do / you're no immortal, I won't let them / deify you / they view you as the new messiah / deify you / renew belief in some demented man." The guitar riff at the bridge really brings up the intensity. They have clips of George W. Bush before the track, but the lyrics are not specifically about the president.

"Stricken" (4:05): Another rocker with plenty of passion and excellent vocals: "When the heart is cold, there's no hope."

"I'm Alive" (4:41): Starts out slower yet intense. It rocks but is more restrained and deliberate.

"Sons of Plunder" (3:47): This track picks up the tempo similar to most of the other songs here. Lyrically, this track is less political. It comes down to a lower pop cultural level about sheep following trends that have been done before: "as the countless numbers hunger for worldwide renown / all the p*mping sons of plunder will roll up their sleeves."

"Overburdened" (5:57): The longest track. Beautiful bass/guitar and vocals at the beginning, then picks up but not losing its beauty. "If only I was born another time / h*ll is still overburdened / I must stand and wait in line / h*ll is still overburdened / how have I been so determined malign?"

"Decadence" (3:24): An OK track. Nothing too special but it has that Disturbed sound, so it rocks. Not many lyrics.

"Forgiven" (4:12): Vocalist David Draiman really takes over this track. I don't know where he takes a breath sometimes. He has a lot of stamina (as he shows off big time on "Pain Redefined").

"Land of Confusion" (4:49): The classic Genesis track never sounded so good. As a lifelong Genesis fan, I can say Disturbed does this track more than justice. I've never enjoyed this track more (not even watching the Spitting Image Ronald Reagan video). Excellent vocals. I like how he elongates the verses.

"Sacred Lie" (3:05): Accessible rocker.

"Pain Redefined" (4:17): Talk about vocal stamina! Does this guy ever take a breath? Incredible! Very impressive. The song also kicks. My third or fourth favorite on this CD.

"Avarice" (2:56): The shortest track but it rocks so hard, it doesn't seem that short. It even has a nice bridge. "Politics and evil / all one and the same."

My review of Disturbed's debut The Sickness labeled them "The New Kings of Metal". I think that there would be more than Ten Thousand Fists in the air in agreement that Disturbed certainly still hold their position in the hierarchy of Metal with the release of this new disk.

What an impressive follow-up Ten Thousand Fists is to Disturbed's 5 star sophomore effort Believe. Ten Thousand Fists is a disk of hard rocking, melodic music with terrific vocals by David Draiman that can be understood all the way through. Dan Donegan (guitar)and Mike Wengren (drums) once again work together in a way that keeps every song rocking along with head bobbin, foot stompin precision (this as opposed to music where the drums and bass merely keep time in the background).

There are many bands trying to be hard these days. Disturbed do not have to try. Clearly their music is what comes naturally to them. Ten Thousand Fists is not the awful manufactured Pop Metal like Nickelback and most recently Trapt (Draiman sings about manufactured music in "Sons of Plunder"). Ten Thousand Fists is not Nu Metal like Staind or 10 Years; Nu Metal isn't bad...but it's not Heavy Metal. Ten Thousand Fists is not Death Metal like Lamb of God or Cannibal Corpse. And Ten Thousand Fists is not Punk like Blink 182, Green Day and the hundreds of others that all sound alike plaguing the radio today.

Ten Thousand Fists is Heavy Metal in the purest form of the art...vocals that you can follow, harmonies, melody, intensity...a uniqueness to each song where there is no confusion as to whether the track has changed. Ten Thousand Fists is great, hard rockin' fun.

And to my surprise..supporting my contention in a couple of my other recent reviews that guitar rock will once again dominate the rock genre...Dan Donegan even throws a few very awesome solos onto this disk.

This disk is an absolute must for your Metal collection. You Will Remember The Night You Were Struck By The Sight Of Ten Thousand Fists In The Air!

5.0 out of 5 stars とてもいい感じです。
