Product was not as advertised
This product is not what I thought it was was ordering. I thought I was getting a product like new, this was not it. There was damage to the booklet, library stickers all over, & it clearly isn’t in the original case. I would have never paid full price for a product in this condition.

The original American Idiot was as galvanizing a piece of mainstream agitprop as I've ever heard - tuneful and moving at the same time. It ranks right near the top of my '10 albums I'd insist on if I was on a desert island' list. The Dookie boys had matured, looked around and created a near-perfect encapsulation of the unease and malaise a lot of us felt back in 2004 (and still feel).
When I heard a Broadway production was in the works, it made sense, since the song sequence and narrative virtually screamed for a dramatic interpretation. But at the same time I was apprehensive - would the qualities that made it so memorable be leached out in an attempt to make it palatable to the masses? I need not have worried - this was created by folks with respect for the source material (as well as the band themselves) and the craft and diligence shows.
Compiled largely from American Idiot (and a generous helping of songs from 21st Century Breakdown) the selections effortlessly convert from the original trio format to ensemble pieces. I'm partial to the blistering roar of songs like American Idiot, Letterbomb (my favorite tune off the source CD) and Too Much Too Soon, but the less raucous material (in particular a gorgeous version of 21 Guns) also packs a wallop. The arrangements, harmonies and vocal talent are all wonderful. Not a clunker in the bunch.
An album I still play on a daily basis gets an amazing reworking and gives me another reason to swoon. Who says love isn't better the second time around?

As a huge Green Day fan, I wasn't sure if I would like the cast recording album, as it's not Billie Joe singing on it, but I've just listened to the sample tracks, and think its absolutely fabulous. The female voices and multi-vocal harmonies give a totally different dimension to what was/is one of the best (IF NOT THE BEST) albums released in the last 30 years, and the additional tracks (ie Favorite Son/Too Much Too Soon + the 21 CB tracks etc) just add the icing to the cake. Now all I have to do, is see if I can buy it, as it's not out in the UK yet !!!!!!!!
****UPDATE - MY IMPORT COPY CAME TODAY IN THE POST (6th May), AND IT'S JUST AS GOOD AS I HAD HOPED, ESPECIALLY WITH THE TRACK 22 - When its Time, WHICH IS ACTUALLY GREEN DAY/Billie Joe SINGING A PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED SONG... [Not sure if the UK version due out next week is going to get this extra track, hence the reason for buying from the USA]
I really like the way they have mixed Last of the American Girls/She's A Rebel into a single song.
Would recommend this as a "must have item" to any Green Day collection.

Not since Spring Awakening has there been a Broadway score so accomplished as American Idiot. In fact it's up there with four star scores as Next to Normal, Ragtime, Captains Courageous, Burnt Part Boys, Capeman and Enter the Guardsman. I am just so thrilled that the reign of mediocrity on Broadway imposed by the Lloyd Webbers, Sondheims, Kander & Ebbs, etc. has ebbed forever.
Tragically if you're musing over whether to see American Idiot on Broadway, don't delay. The problem with the show is that there is no book. (Or, there is a book but only in the head of the composer.) Very few shows, apart from Cats survive without a book. Spring Awakening was viable because its indie rock had the benefit of Frank Wedekind's play. Green Day's music was never better performed, especially not by Green Day. This recording is essential.

Having seen the Broadway production of "American Idiot," I found the original cast recording to be excellent, capturing the raw, driving energy of the stage performance. The one caveat I give to anyone who hasn't seen the production (and this holds true for any original cast recording no matter the show) is the following: whether it will be as exciting or entertaining as it was for those who have seen it may very well depend on one's ability to visualize or imagine the story and action. Complete lyrics are provided with this recording, which should help those who haven't seen the show enjoy the recording all the more.
As for Green Day fans, they'll probably be very happy with this version regardless of whether or not they've seen or ever will see "American Idiot" on Broadway.

The soundtrack to the American Idiot Musical can also be seen as a soundtrack to my, or any, generations life. Of course teh original is better, but that doen's mean this one is bad, is just different. Both Great. The cast members are really great singers, it couldn't be any other way. Green Day is one of the bravest bands nowadays, to pull something like this of. I've been a fan since 1994, when I was 13. I grew up with their music and still love everything they do. My favourite thing about this record is how some of the songs are different from the originals, especially the last one - "Whatsername" - always loved that song and I think it got even more beautiful. Plus the song "When It's Time", performed by the actual band. Great Bonus.

I have tickets for the Broadway musical touring company's "American Idiot" this month, and I'm thankful I got this CD so that I'll know what I'm seeing! The album notes explain the plot and has the words to the songs (I can't always understand them), so I know I'll enjoy the show much more. Of course, the show won't have Billie Joe Armstrong (love his unique voice), but it does have his songs.

Green Dayのふるさと、カリフォルニアのバークレーで去年秋、産声を上げたミュージカル「American idiot」、今年の春にはブロードウェイに上がり、トニー賞にノミネート! 惜しくも受賞は逃したものの、アメリカの政治批判を謳った作品がここまで上り詰めたとは。先日NHKで放映された今年のトニー賞番組をみて感慨に浸った。グリーンデイのアルバムをただカバーするのではなく、歌詞のもつエネルギーが、若者たちのドラマを織り成す。夢・希望・挫折・孤独・不安・誘惑・恍惚・負傷…社会不安のなか懸命に生き、失い、そして気付く。主演のジョン・ギャラガー・ジュニアは「春の目覚め」のモーリッツ役が記憶に新しい。ミュージカルファンとしては、成長に戸惑い死を選んだモーリッツが、激しい変化の中で生き延びて成長を遂げるのが嬉しい。日本にいる私たちも、生きていく勇気をくれる、そんな作品だ。

Si vous aimez le punk rock, green day est fait pour vous. De plus, ce CD pour se réveiller est parfait. Il te réveille en douceur et te met de bonne humeur. Dès que tu l'entends, tu as envie de danser...Niveau livraison cela à été très rapide et efficace. Je vous en remercie.
