(Second paragraph will discuss the physical vinyl)
I pre-ordered the vinyl version of this a couple weeks before it came out, I did not get it until today, 8 days later, I have been waiting to listen to this album until I got the vinyl, trying to hold myself over by repeating "Stone" many many times. I cannot say enough good things about the new tracks, I am a huge fan of AiC with Layne Staley and will always miss that, but I have beautiful music they made together that I will enjoy for the rest of my life, I am just happy AiC is still going and continuing to produce great music, doing something different, while keeping their signature sound. I admit they DO sound way different but when I first heard the single on the radio I immediately knew it was them, that "something special" is still there. If you are an AiC fan I recommend getting this album, if you are a new fan and like the single "Stone" I recommend it completely, you wont be disappointed.

I wanted to review the vinyl separately because it's hard to sift through all the reviews to find the quality of the product, especially when you are spending a pretty penny on it you may not want to blind buy like I did. Let me start off by saying, the vinyls are beautiful the picture discs just look great! Its a double LP, vinyl has a good weight to it and feels like great quality. From the pictures on AiC website I assumed it came in a clear plastic cover that had some structure to it, however, (the only major disappointment of the whole purchase)the sleeve IS actually clear plastic, heavy weight plastic, but flimsy, I have never bought a picture disc before but I am assuming it's the same stuff they are usually packed in, but with so many negative reviews on that packaging I figured record companies would try something a little different. There is no support in the sleeve whatsoever it comes with a flimsy piece of paper with the songs written on the back of it, i might cut a piece of cardboard to slide behind the paper just to support it for now, until I can get my hands on picture disc sleeves of some sort. Okay, so enough about the disappointing packaging, I am no audiophile as long as something is not crazy out of wack it does not bother me. There is some surface noise, which I have heard is common with picture discs, the only time i hear it is right after the needle drop, and as soon as the last song is done, otherwise I don't hear it at all. The music sounded great to me, heavy, clear, and like it should. I cannot compare the sound to the mp3 or cd version as I haven;t listened to either yet, but I can say that I happy with the purchase, and I'm happy to add this to my AiC collection, a MUST buy for and AiC fan, treat yourself :)
