I learned about this movie from an online class with Leslie Kaminoff, founder of The Breathing Project and co-author of Yoga Anatomy. He spoke highly of this depiction of breathing as did my teacher, Scott Anderson. It starts out showing just the rib cage & its movement as we breathe. The torso rotates so you you can see the movement from all sides. Then she adds the diaphragm & its movement, then the lungs, heart, and organs & muscles in the abdominal cavity. I found myself breathing & becoming aware of each body part as it was introduced into the dance of breath. The first 9 minutes has music and narration of what happens. The second 9 minutes is the same movie with music only. It's very relaxing just watching it! If someone had difficulty focusing (ADHD, stressed...,) this would be very helpful to watch. I've shown short clips to my yoga students (sound off so I could narrate it myself.) Most students had no idea how high the diaphragm is in the body or its shape or movement. It was an eye-opener!

The animation is useful in picturing the breathing apparatus, but it could have been much better with some extra highlighting or labels. When naming muscles, the narrator assumes that the viewer will know which ones are which. Also, more information about origin and insertion would be appreciated instead of "goes to the head." Speaking of the head, the skull is never shown, so you don't see where some of the muscles mentioned attach. The diaphragm also could have used some labels and more information about muscle vs. tendon for those who are not anatomists.
Be advised that the video is about 8 minutes long and then is repeated with just the music and no narration. You are paying about $3/minute for the information.

This DVD is only 5 minutes long. There is a narrated version that lasts a total of only about 5 minutes, and then the same video is repeated with only music, so it is 10 minutes altogether. It could be great, and the 5 minutes are interesting. However, the narration seems to be spoken too quickly. This was an expensive DVD for 5 minutes, with only maybe half of that time illustrating things I was hoping to see/learn about the lungs, respiration, and anatomy. I feel like the product marketing is deceptive to the unknowing consumer, since it is so short and there is no mention of the time in the other reviews or in the product description.

I am a Psychotherapist and a former movement therapist who works in a bodily oriented style of psychotherapy called AEDP. I have watched the video numerous time and love it. It is informative, clear, and direct without being too wordy or complicated. I really appreciate that you can watch it again only with the animation and the wonderful accompanying music. I have passed it on to patients to watch for them to be able to get in touch with their inner body, and their breathe and the way it impacts how they feel emotionally and conversely how breathing is affected by emotion. I have also purchased several copies and have given them to my colleagues as I believe that this video is an invaluable resource for psychotherapists as well as for body workers. Thank you for making this and sharing your years of training and wisdom!

I bought this DVD and must praise the amazing amount of work it must have involved. I am thankful it was done. However I have doubts over its accuracy . This is puzzling and even misleading. I have seen it with doctors and movement professionals in the room who were irritated by those inconsistencies. It needs to be reviewed and perhaps even taken off the market if the visual information is indeed misleading.

With an excellent animator and the expertise of breathing expert Jessica Wolf, we can see what breathing looks like from the inside out. If you still think that you need to breath into your belly to take a big breath - this DVD is for you. It helps you see where breathing really takes place in the body and how much movement there is around the actually movement of the lungs, ribs and diaphragm. And maybe these images can even help you when you are meditating to "obeserve your breath" .

I, also, was disappointed. While the graphics are beautifully done, the DVD is only 9 minutes long (It repeats). And it is inaccurate. It shows the intestines rising on the inhalation. How can that be, if the diaphragm is descending and pushing down on the internal organs? I was hoping that this would be an investment in my teaching tools. I will not show this to my students.
