Japanese Box Office, February 6-7

The Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya film, the first ever film in the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise, debuted at #7 on the Japanese Kogyo Tsushinsha chart during the February 6-7 weekend. According to Variety and Rentrak Theatrical, the film placed at #6 and earned US$997,803 in 24 theaters for a per-screen average of US$41,575. In the Kyoto Animation film, chief director Tatsuya Ishihara and director Yasuhiro Takemoto adapted the fourth Haruhi Suzumiya light novel from Nagaru Tanigawa and Noizi Ito.

According to the Eiga Consultant Nikki (Movie Consultant Blog), viewers spent 89,010,100 yen to watch the film 60,306 times. That gives the film a per-screen average of 3.7 million yen, compared to Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works' 3.14-million-yen (US$35,100) average on 12 screens, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st's 3.22-million-yen (US$36,000) average on 19 screens, and Evangelion: 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance's (Evangelion Shin Gekijōban: Ha's) 4.27-million-yen (US$47,700) average on 120 screens.

Samurai Sentai Shinkenger vs. Go-onger Ginmaku Bang!, a film featuring a crossover between two Super Sentai live-action special-effect series (Samurai Sentai Shinkenger and Engine Sentai Go-onger), fell from #5 to #6 (#7 on Rentrak Theatrical's chart) during its second weekend in the box office. The film earned US$846,164 on 140 screens for a total-to-date of US$2,945,035.

Nodame Cantabile Saishū Gakushō Zen-Pen (Nodame Cantabile: The Final Score Part I) fell from #10 off the charts in its seventh weekend in theaters. James Cameron's Avatar science-fiction action movie, which stayed at #1 for the seventh straight weekend, earned a weekend box office take of US$6,406,579 on 650 screens for a per-screen average of US$9,856.
