Shueisha to Launch, Relaunch 3 Manga Mags in 2011-2012

posted on 2011-07-05 10:00 EDT by Egan Loo

The Japanese publisher Shueisha announced on Monday that it will merge its seinen (young men's) manga magazines Business Jump and Super Jump to create a new biweekly magazine this fall. Business Jump will end with this year's 21st issue on October 5, and Super Jump will end with this year's 21st issue on October 12. In addition, it will launch a separate monthly magazine this year. Moreover, the spinoff magazine Jump Kai will relaunch as a regular periodical magazine next spring.

Shueisha currently publishes about 240,000 copies of Business Jump every first and third Wednesday. The magazine began in May of 1985 as a monthly magazine, and it went biweekly in March of the following year. Its primary readership is composed of male company workers in their 30s and 40s. Its titles include Sweet Life, Takeki Ōgon no Kuni, and Jō-ō.

About 200,000 copies of Super Jump ship every second and fourth Wednesday. It launched in October of 1988 as a seinen magazine aimed at the generation raised on Weekly Shonen Jump. Its titles include Ring ni Kakero 2, Jin, and Gotakeshi.

Shueisha explained that it is making these changes in response to the changing environment for seinen manga and the changing tastes of readers.
