SECOND WIN FOR MALAYSIA; THAILAND HIT SEVEN PAST MYANMAR (original) (raw)
BANGKOK (28 August 2008) – Malaysia picked up their second win with a 7-1 demolition of Brunei in Group B of the AFF Futsal Championship 2008 as hosts Thailand blasted Myanmar 7-2 in Group A here at the Nimibutr Stadium.
But Malaysia were again a little slow to settle down when they allowed Brunei to score the first goal in the ninth minute off Ranozakhran Tajuddin.
However, the Malaysian made full use of their experience to slam in the goals from Mohd Ruzaley in the 11th minute, Muhammad Fadhil Yusof (16th) and Muizzuddin Mohd Haris (20th) for a 3-1 at the half.
They then added further goals after the break off Addie Azwan Zainal (24th minute), Fadhil (25th), Ruzaley (31st) and Ahmad Hanif Sarmin (36th).
“We got what we wanted from this game. Now it is important to look to winning our last group game tomorrow (against Vietnam) to top the group,” added P. Balakrishnan, the head coach for Malaysia.
Thailand on the other hand, suffered no such jitters when they started strongly to take a 3-2 lead at the break with goals off Kritsada Wongkaeo (in the second minute), Thanakorn Penpakul (6th) and Jadet Punpoem (8th).
Myanmar scored their goals only in the first half of the match through Aung Moe (5th minute) and Soe Min Oo (14th).
The second-half was all Thailand as they romped in four more goals from Nuttapun Namboonmee (23rd minute), Jadet (24th), Nattawut Kongnimit (25th) and Kritsada (31st).
But both teams ended the match on a low note when they each had a man sent-off with Thailand losing Suphahut for a second yellow card while Myanmar had Kyaw Dunn being given the marching orders for a red card offence.
“We are on our way to a place in the semi-finals,” added Kraiserm Tohtubtiang, the team manager of Thailand.
