Recommended programs include Clocks and Calendars, Solar Science and Space Weather, and Solar System motions. Evening Tours will focus on night time astronomy with observing (weather permitting), a tour of the night sky, and presentations on our place in space. All educational programs compliment the Earth and Space, and Optics, units of the elementary and secondary Ontario curriculum - with linkages to numeracy, literacy, history, and the visual arts. Learn more! | About Us Chris Vaughan is an Earth Scientist and Astronomer (graduate of the University of Toronto, 1982) with a passion for education and public outreach. He is the recipient of the 2014 Bertram Topham Award for Observing and the 2013, 2014, and 2018 Andrew Elvins Awards for Promotion of Astronomy from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Toronto Centre. Since 1996, Chris has been visiting classrooms, hosting science-themed assemblies, running science clubs, and holding Star Parties for schools and other groups around the GTA. He is also the author of the Astronomy Skylights newsletter, a columnist for Space.com, and an operator of the DDO's 74" Great Telescope.Learn more! | The Observatories York University's Allan I. Carswell Observatory, which opened in 1969, houses 16" and 24" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes atop the Petrie Science and Engineering Building which is located near Steeles Ave between Jane St and Keele St in northern Toronto. They offer free public viewing on Wednesday nights. The David Dunlap Observatory at 123 Hillsview Ave in Richmond Hill, hosts Canada's largest optical telescope, a 74" reflector. Visits can be arranged through Richmond Hill.Groups can visit RASC Toronto Centre's E.C. Carr Astronomical Observatory, located near Collinwood, Ontario.
