Motherwell 6-0 Morton (original) (raw)
Motherwell routed First Division Morton to book a place in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.
Tom Hateley scored directly from a corner before Jamie Murphy headed the home side's second.
Shaun Hutchinson, Henrik Ojamaa and Nicky Law added further goals before half-time as the Scottish Premier League side continued to dominate.
Morton improved after the break but could not force a consolation and Murphy fired his second on 67 minutes.
The Steelmen, finalists in last season's tournament, will discover their last-eight opponents on Monday.
Murphy had an excellent chance to put the hosts in front after Morton goalkeeper Colin Stewart failed to deal with a passback but the striker's effort hit the side-netting.
Stewart redeemed himself with an excellent save to deny Law, who had been played in by Murphy.
But the keeper was beaten in the eighth minute when Hateley's corner evaded everyone in the box and bounced into the corner of the goal.
Ojamaa then fired against the post after being released by Michael Higdon.
Higdon headed Hateley's corner towards goal and, though Stewart made a superb point-blank save, Murphy was on hand to nod Motherwell's second.
And it was from another Hateley corner that the Fir Park side got their third, Hutchinson rising to bullet a header past Stewart.
Ojamaa, fresh from signing a new contract this week, twisted and turned inside the box and unleashed a low effort into the bottom right corner.
And the Estonian striker turned provider for Motherwell's fifth, sliding the ball across for Law to dispatch into the net.
Peter MacDonald and Michael Tidser tested Motherwell goalkeeper Darren Randolph as Morton began to threaten after the break.
But Motherwell still had another goal in them as substitute Chris Humphrey and Ojamaa combined to set up Murphy to lash home.
And 'Well might have had a seventh, Higdon glancing a header over in the closing stages.
