‘Goodies’ Still Good Enough For No. 1 (original) (raw)

The title track of Ciara’s debut album is beginning a seventh week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100. “Goodies” featuring Petey Pablo is the lead single from the artist’s Sho’nuff/Music Line/LaFace album of the same name, which drops 3-10 this week on The Billboard 200 and falls 1-3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Despite the single’s strong showing, “Goodies” is starting to slip a little in urban markets, as the cut abdicates the throne on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart to Usher and Alicia Keys’ “My Boo.” It is the first duet to lead that list since Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine” in 1988.

“My Boo” remains the biggest threat to “Goodies” on the Hot 100, where it is No. 2 for the third week. Right behind it, also for a third week, is Terror Squad’s “Lean Back.” The rap act also scores a new entry on the chart at No. 94 with “Take Me Home,” the second single from its sophomore Universal effort, “True Story.”

Destiny‘s Child’s “Lose My Breath” jumps 5-4, ending Nelly’s seven-week stay in that position with “My Place,” which drops to No. 6. Maroon5’s “She Will Be Loved” rises 6-5 and Eminem’s “Just Lose It” moves further into the Hot 100’s top tier with a three-slot gain to No. 7.

Rounding out the top 10, Akon’s “Locked Up” featuring Styles P is No. 8 for the third week, Avril Lavigne’s “My Happy Ending” is at No. 9 for the fourth and Alicia Keys’ “Diary” featuring Tony! Toni! Tone! rises one to No. 10.

Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot” makes an eight-slot lunge to land at No. 11. The Hot 100’s greatest gainer at retail is Trick Daddy’s “Let’s Go” featuring Lil Jon and Twista, which makes a 24-19 move.

Taking a whopping 40-slot jump to No. 18 is Nelly’s “Over and Over” featuring Tim McGraw. The cut is the Hot 100’s fastest-growing track at radio with a 23.5 million U.S. listener-impression rise and an overall audience total of 49.3 million, according to Nielsen BDS. McGraw also debuts a second song on the chart this week at No. 74 with “Back When.”

Also making notable gains on the Hot 100 are Lil Wayne’s “Go D.J.” (44-25), Chingy’s “Balla Baby” (56-41) and Rupee’s “Tempted To Touch” (94-76).

R. Kelly and Jay-Z score this week’s top debut with “Big Chips” at No. 63. Other cuts new to the chart this week are Dierks Bentley’s “How Am I Doin’?” (No. 72), Gavin DeGraw’s “I Don’t Want To Be” (No. 73), Papa Roach’s “Getting Away With Murder” (No. 75) and Mario’s “Let Me Love You” (No. 97).

Country star George Strait not only tops The Billboard 200 this week with his MCA Nashville set “50 Number Ones,” but his single “I Hate Everything” jumps 2-1 to take the lead of the Hot Country Singles & Tracks list. With his 39th No. 1 on this chart, Strait needs only one more to tie Conway Twitty’s record for the most. Last week’s chart-topper, Sara Evans’ “Suds in the Bucket,” falls to No. 2.

Velvet Revolver’s “Fall to Pieces” is No. 1 for the third week on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks tally, while Green Day’s “American Idiot” holds the top slot of the Modern Rock Tracks chart for the fifth consecutive week.
