I know CoCo Lee is a huge star in Taiwan and sang the Oscar-nominated “Love Before Time,” (from “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”) but I remember her first English album was released a couple of years ago. She started to get some heavy airplay around where I lived (Sacramento, Calif.) with “Do You Want My Love” but then she just disappeared. Do you happen to have the stats for how much Lee’s “Just No other Way” album has sold in the U.S. and if she has any plans for a new English album?

Hi Phi,

While a huge star in Asia, CoCo Lee has never really had much success in America. Her lone Billboard chart appearance came with the single “Do You Want My Love,” which reached no. 49 on the Hot Dance/Club Play tally. The 550 Music/Epic single was released in early 2000.

Her album, “Just No Other Way,” was released on Feb. 29, 2000, and has since sold 40,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

There is no word on if Lee will eventually get another U.S. record deal.

How many copies has Stevie Nicks’ “Trouble In Shangri-La” sold? Did it sell less than her 1994 “Street Angel”?

Hi Christopher,

Stevie Nicks’ “Trouble In Shangri-La” has sold substantially more than “Street Angel.” The latter album, released in 1994, has sold 226,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. “Trouble,” issued in 2001, has sold 637,000.

Currently, Nicks can be found on tour with Fleetwood Mac, a trek that will now last into the fall. The group’s latest release, “Say You Will” (Warner Bros.), has moved 667,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. The title track is the current single, and is No. 17 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart and No. 21 on the Adult Top 40 chart.

I’ve become a fan of Daniel Bedingfield after his beautiful ballad “If You’re Not the One” hit the airwaves earlier this year. I know his album has never managed to climb into the top-40 on The Billboard 200, but I know that it has managed to stick around on the chart since its release last year. Can you please tell me what it’s total number of copies it has sold? I’m surprised it isn’t gold yet.

Daniel Bedingfield’s “Gotta Get Thru This” was released in August 2002 by Island and has sold 460,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), not Billboard, certifies releases with gold, platinum and diamond designations. In order for a title to be awarded a gold plaque, the RIAA must, at the request of the lable or artist, certify that 500,000 copies shipped to U.S. retailers. My guess is that Bedingfield’s label is probably on the verge of requesting certification for the set.

The disc peaked last September at No. 41 on The Billboard 200. The set has made a comeback recently due to the popularity of the single “If You’re Not the One.” This week the album is No. 87 on the album chart.

“If You’re Not the One” is Bedingfield’s second single from this album to reach the top-20 on Billboard’s Hot 100, peaking at No. 15 on May 31. The title track made it to No. 10 on the chart Sept. 28, 2002. “James Dean (I Wanna Know)” scratched the bottom of the Top 40 Mainstream chart, peaking at No. 36 in February.
