Early Life

Peter Ebdon was born on 27 August 1970. Ebdon's father was on the ground staff of Surrey Cricket Club. Ebdon played cricket for his school Highbury Grove and had trials with London schoolboys.

Snooker Career

Peter Ebdon became a snooker professional in 1991 and won the Embassy World Championship in 2002 with a thrilling 18-17 victory over Stephen Hendry. He had been beaten by Stephen Hendry in the final of the UK Championships in 1995 and the World Championship final in 1996. Peter Ebdon was also beaten, even though he had made a terrific comeback, by Graeme Dott in the final of the 2006 snooker World Championship.

In the quarter-final of the 2005 World Championship, Ebdon's dogged style came to the fore in his victory over Ronnie O'Sullivan. When Peter Ebdon took three minutes over a shot, O'Sullivan asked a spectator what the time was. When Ebdon took five minutes to compile a break of 12, O'Sullivan burst into laughter.

In December 2006, Peter Ebdon became only the ninth player to have won both the UK Championship and the world title when he beat Stephen Hendry 10-6 in the UK Championship.

However, Peter Ebdon lost in the first round of the UK Championship the following year, 2007, 9-8 to Ian McCulloch.

On 5 April 2009, Peter Ebdon won the China Open title after beating John Higgins 10-8 in the final.

In July 2010, Peter Ebdon, who had a lack of practise partly because he was about to get married again, took the unusual step of issuing a warning statement that he might not play to his highest standard in the forthcoming Roewe Shanghai Masters because he had not been properly prepared. Nevertheless, he went on to beat Michael White 5-1 and qualify for the Shanghai Masters.

In April 2012, Peter Ebdon won the China Open, beating Stephen Maguire 10-9.

On 30 April 2020, he retired from snooker because of a chronic neck injury.

Personal Life

In 2009 Peter Ebdon and his first wife Debbie, the mother of his four children Ruby May, Ethan, Tristan and Clarissa, divorced.

In 2010 he married his second wife Nora.
