• A visit to Brunei Darussalam

  I accompanied my wife who was asked to work for four days in Brunei with the Ministry of Education so I spent 4 days sightseeing in Bandar Seri Begawan.
  My background reading had made me a bit tentative as Brunei is a strict Islamic state, one does not speak ill of the Sultan and the weather is hot and sultry. All of these are true and Brunei Darussalam is strictly Islamic but it seemed to me an example of Islam in action. The people are without exception courteous, friendly and welcoming. The women in the main, wear a light headscarf and beautiful dresses and certainly play a very prominent part in the running of the town.
  I doubt if people would wish to speak ill of the Sultan as although an absolute ruler, he is a very active and civic minded ruler. Yes, the weather is warm and sultry but you seem to get used to it and air conditioning is the norm in all buildings.
  Bandar Ser Begawan is a very beautiful place with the magnificent mosques and civic buildings being a wonderful counterpoint to the very traditional and most unusual Kampong Ayer, the water village. The Ulu Temburong National Park Is an overnight trip not to be missed. The food is plentiful, varied, cheap and very good.
  Sunshine Borneo Tours. Previous to our visit we had booked up two days at Ulu Temburong National Park with Sunshine Tours so I set out to find them on the first day to book up some day tours. I found them extremely friendly and help fun in planning tours for the next four days.
  The first trip was a two hour tour of Kampong Ayer including the cultural and tourism gallery. Richard, my guide was extremely knowledge and spent a lot of time explaining the background and customs of this very traditional way of life. Traditional in spite of the fact that every household owned a car and parked it not the city side of the river getting to their houses by water taxi.
  As always, unless I organised it otherwise, I was picked up and set down at my hotel which was some kilometres out of town.
  I am having to abbreviate this report so to cap it off I loved Brunei and its people and I found Borneo Sunshine Tours to be very well organised with a plethora of vehicles and guides all of whom where very knowledgable and friendly and added very much to my enjoyment of the trip.

• Great day trip to the rainforest

  I was in Brunei for 48 hours en route to Northern Borneo.

  I wanted to do a day trip to the rainforest and chose Sunshine Borneo Tours due to their excellent pricing for a single traveller.

  Was picked up at my hotel and transferred to the jetty for my boat. This proved to be an exciting morning trip across the bay and up the rivers into the beginnings of the rainforest. On arrival I was met and after a short transfer by taxi we arrived at the point to pick up the long boat. With my own guide and boat driver we made an excellent journey up shallow waters to reach the hotel in the forest where we had a snack.

  Then onto the walk into the rainforest and up onto the canopy walks. Very hot and humid, however I had a great young guide who tole me all about plants and wildlife and life living out here. The views were wonderful.

  Getting back to the lodge I enjoyed a lunch and refreshments before we set off back down the river, stopping to visit the small waterfalls with foot nibbling fish in the pond at the foot of the falls.

  The journey back was just as good, getting to see the huge trees, plant and birdlife along two long stretches of rivers.

• Responsive, timely, great tour operator

  We booked a night at Ulu Ulu through this tour operator. It was excellent. They were responsive throughout the booking process, very timely and organized in the transfer logistics, and friendly. Everything about the booking and trip was smooth and we were very pleased to have done a night at Ulu Ulu through Sunshine Borneo.

• Awesome Guide and Operator

  We wanted to do a combination of activities, and Sunshine Borneo worked with us to customize a tour. We went over to Temburong by speedboat and toured the market, rain forest, and a long house. At the long house we enjoyed a tour, show, and lunch. After a ride back on the speedboat, we traveled to the water village and had tea in a local house. Lastly we made stops at 2 mosques.

  Our guide, Richard, was amazing and fun. He had so much information to share and made this a wonderful experience. He managed to keep us on track for a very full day.
