Social Work (MA) (original) (raw)

In order to be considered for this programme you will need to meet all of the entry requirements. Your application will not be progressed if the information and evidence listed is not provided.

With your online application, you will need to provide:

1. A copy of your degree certificate and transcripts which show you have achieved a 2:2 honours degree in any subject, or an equivalent international degree. If your degree certificate or result is pending, please upload any interim transcripts or provisional certificates.

2. A personal statement, no longer than 4,000 characters in length, in which you address the following three questions:

  1. What are your motivations for applying to study social work at Cardiff University?
  2. What is your understanding of the Code of Professional Practice for Social Care? Available here.
  3. What experience do you have of social care (personal, professional or a combination) and what have you learned from this experience about the values and skills needed to be a social worker? (Please note, there is no minimum number of hours experience you need to have, although the more recent the experience the more likely it is to be helpful for your application.)

3. One academic or professional/employer reference, completed within the last 6 months, which indicates your suitability to be a social work student. Please ensure the reference is signed, dated, and on headed paper.

4. Suitable evidence of English language ability equivalent to IELTS with an overall score of 7.5 with 6.5 in all subskills. Please include the date of your expected test if this qualification is pending.

If you do not have a degree, your application may still be considered on the basis of extensive professional experience in the field of social care, as reflected in your personal statement and reference. If this applies to you, your application will be placed on a waiting list and if there are still places available on the course you may be invited for an interview in the summer.

Application deadline

We allocate places on a first-come, first-served basis, so we recommend you apply as early as possible. Applications normally close at the end of July but may close sooner if all places are filled.

Selection process

We will review your application and if you meet the entry requirements, we will invite you to attend an interview. To help you prepare, you will be provided with a copy of the interview questions in advance. Should you be successful at interview, and there are still places available, you will receive an offer.

Enrolment conditions

If you are successful in obtaining an offer, your enrolment will be subject to fulfilment of the following conditions:
