The unfair distribution of responsibility for asylum seekers between EU member states under the “Dublin system” has long been a bone of contention in the Common European Asylum System. In April 2024, the EU Parliament approved the controversial migration and asylum package after lengthy negotiations. The rules for illegal immigrants in particular were significantly tightened.
As an economist, Frank Venmans focuses on optimal climate policy, taking into account risk, imperfect information, technological change and inequality. He specializes in dynamic optimization under uncertainty, and develops integrated assessment models, looking at welfare-maximizing emission paths reaching net zero. During his visit to CESifo, he will continue his research on optimal climate policy.
Enrico Rubolino’s research interests lie in the field of public and labor economics, with a focus on studying behavioral responses to tax policy and the effects of public policies on gender inequality, intergenerational mobility, and educational achievement.
